Welcome Our New Resident Manager
Michael Casey
Born in Torrance, CA, of 1970. I joined the military at 18 years old and became a father of two girls while stationed in Germany. Honorably discharged from the United States Army I found myself in Prescott, Arizona for more than a decade where my training from the military turned from Telecommunications to Computer Sciences. After my girls were older, I divorced in 1999 and around 2006, made my way out to the East Coast. There I continued with Information Technology as my primary profession. In 2011 A friend who lived in Haiku, Maui suggested a change of Life Style for me. I made the decision to leave “the city life” behind me, bought a “One-Way to Paradise” and have lived on Maui every since. It was the best decision of my Life (for me).
The “Original Thought” was to live a ‘Semi-Retired’ lifestyle where I worked as a Bicycle Mechanic and Recreations Concierge at Boss Frog’s, Lahaina. Unfortunately, in 2023 that all changed. Unfortunately, I lost everything (including my cat) and work place. From there I moved to Honokowai (West Maui) where I found my new calling as a Resident Manager for a 68 Unit Condominium for the passed 2 years. I grew to love the environment, the people, and the satisfaction of my days being a part of where I lived. I am looking forward to translating that ALOHA Life Style here with Kihei Kai and look forward to sharing with place, the people, as well as the challenges and adventures to come.

Meet Vidar, Our New Residence Manager
Vidar recently moved to Maui from Oregon and is excited to bring his 35 year long building development and facility maintenance expertise to work. Being a frequent guest in the past years, he knows a lot about Kihei Kai Oceanfront Condos, the surroundings, what to do and where to go. He is here to enhance your vacation experience.
Vidar is a hands on person and you will see him around the property doing the many tasks that makes Kihei Kai Oceanfront Condos shine. He is a social person and enjoys a chat. Flag him down anytime if you have questions about your unit or anything else. His goal is to make your stay memorable and want to come back year after year.
When he is not busy repairing and maintaining Kihei Kai, he is out dancing with Penny. They are championship level ballroom dancers and travel to dance competitions in the US and Canada as often as they can.

Building Stabilization Update
This past month, construction crews successfully raised the damaged portion of the building. Exterior support beams are now being installed for stabilization. Noise remains minimal and not disruptive. Secure fencing has been placed around the building site for everyone’s safety. Curtains have been added to reduce visibility of the construction.
Once stabilization is complete, work will pause until the next phase begins. At this time, a start date for the next phase has not been confirmed. Construction is anticipated to gradually begin at the start of next year.

2025 Kihei Kai Updates
New Rental Management:
This month our we say good bye to our rental manager Jesse! He has received a new opportunity and will be moving on from his position at Kihei Kai in the next month or so! He said he truly enjoyed his time and experience with us and says he hopes to see many of our guests and owners again soon. “The culture Kihei Kai has created, has been a joy to witness. I have never seen so many vacationers build lifetime relationships with each other and have such a love and loyalty for complex. It really is their home away from home and it was a joy being a part of it.” He will pursue a career in real estate media and marketing starting the beginning of July but will be available to help our new manager April begin her time here. We have also said “Aloha!” to his replacement, April! April has recently moved to Maui from Washington and is excited to bring her management experience, work ethic and Aloha Spirit to Kihei Kai. Flood Recovery:
Our new lawn area is now ready for lounge chairs for those guests that prefer to relax by the ocean while avoiding the sand. It brings us a lot of joy to see guests utilizing the space again! Although we still miss the other half of our lawn, our property managers Jim & Carol Anne have made the surrounding property look amazing and we are so glad to still provide the convenience & access expected from an oceanfront complex! We are happy to report that our guests have been enjoying their stays despite the mitigated aftermath of the flooding. Never the less, to compensate for the loss and the potential eye sore, (incase you missed it) we have discounted our rates to $175 per night starting today through November 1st, 2025!

Maui is still recovering from the fire that occurred in Lahaina 2 years ago but is still suffering economically from the global news circulation, instructing tourists to forego their planned vacations to Maui. As a result, many businesses and families are struggling to meet their financial needs as so many of our welcomed tourists have decided to cancel their trips to Maui. According to Maui’s Economic Development Board, about 70 cents of every dollar generated in Maui comes from tourism. As you can imagine, Maui is eager and ready for you to return to our island, as the whole economy is in need. We want to join our local community in voicing that “Maui needs YOU”, as so many families and local communities depend on tourism to support themselves and each other. Our local government is working hard to house those displaced and budget for restoration of our beloved Lahaina. We want to encourage all who read our newsletter and keep in touch with Maui, to take the leap and vacation here on island. The island is open and is as beautiful as ever and your stay with Kihei Kai and many others will be secured and unaltered regardless of current news circulation. 2025 Kihei Kai Updates
Flood Recovery
On January 31st, Kihei Kai was affected by a Kona storm generating a flash flood that unfortunately washed out some of our front lawn and the foundation of our front 4 units. Kihei Kai has recovered quickly, thanks to the amazing hard-working efforts of our owners and beloved long time guests. Although the front 4 units are no longer able to be rented for the time being (units 1, 2, 9, 10 ) [3 & 11, for now], we are still able to and are accommodating guests in the rest of our units and our property has a new life and ironically looks even better than it has in years! A majority of our front lawn has been washed away, but we have completed building back the sand by the remaining lawn and have planted sod and retaining plants to be grown over the next few months. Thankfully, our patio and eating are still in tact and usable and we have beach access for our guests, as well as a new grill and eating area by our pool. The current – tentative – plan is to rebuild the front stack of units in the next year or two, but we have a while to go until that process is approved by the county & started. Kihei Kai thanks you all that have continued to support us and have continued renting with us, wishing us well and offered support and prayers. The Aloha spirit and love has been so evident during this heart wrenching time and we thank you for making our community such a special Ohana over the decades and for decades to come. We will be offering special rates in the upcoming months and want to let you know you are welcome, needed and appreciated. We will do our best to keep you all updated but as of now we open, deemed safe host and recovering fast!
Our owners and long time guests have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into rebuilding what is salvageable in our front lawn. We have had a team rebuild the lawn near the grills patio and we have planted new grass and retaining plants to take root. This area should be able to accommodate around 8 guests on their lawn chairs not including the patio & grill area, that has not been affected by the flooding. We have also create a pathway to the beach for easy accessibility!

Our New Property Managers!
We have recently said good-bye to our property manager Kaleb and have said a, “Aloha & welcome back” to our NEW, yet previous managers, Jim and Carole Anne Olson. They will be working for Kihei Kai until we on board our permanent resident manager Vidar, expected to start in the fall. The Olson’s have served many years with us in the 90’s and they are bringing new life back to Kihei Kai’s property and atmosphere. If you remember them from previous years, be sure book with us this spring or summer or just stop by and give them hello to catch up with them!

Maui Attractions: The Road to Hana
The Famous Road to Hana! When you visit Maui, be sure to put this excursion on your to do list! The road to Hana has the dense jungles, enormous water falls and volcanic beaches you know and love about Hawaii. We recommend downloading the Shaka – Guide Road to Hana app. This app serves as your own personal tour guide. The spokes person narrates the history of our beautiful island as you drive along the road and marks and recommends the best sights to see based on your location. Be sure to check out Red Sand beach, Homoa Beach, and Black Sand beach! Afterwards grab lunch at one of the fantastic food trucks in Hana town and don’t leave before trying Auntie Sandy’s Famous banana bread!
