Hawai’i Facts: Silversword
The silvery hairs, fleshy leaves, and low-growing rosette form of Hawai’i Silverswords allow them to survive in hot, dry climates like the aeolian desert cinder slopes of the crater at Haleakala National Park on Maui and the high deserts of Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
Silverswords live between 3 and 90 years or more. They flower once, sending up a spectacular flowering stalk, and then die soon afterward, scattering drying seeds to the wind.

Beachfront Ocean View Condo #1 is located on the ground level offering 180 degree ocean views from the lanai, living room and bedroom. Our Beachfront Ocean View Condo has been beautifully and completely renovated with new modern appliances and is fully stocked to meet your needs. Enjoy hearing the 24/7 sounds of the ocean waves 100 feet away as you relax with the cooling breezes on the lanai and watch the seasonal, breaching humpback whales between the straits. The King size bed in the bedroom has panoramic windows on two sides overlooking the ocean and is a lovely place to sleep with the windows open, rocking in the arms of the living sea. This condo will sleep two comfortably with the sleeper sofa adding two more in the living room, also with an oceanfront presence and sliding doors to the ocean-facing lanai. This condo has a split system quiet air conditioner in the bedroom and living room. Parking is complimentary and WIFI is unlimited. Hawai’i Facts
The endangered Nene has found a home in Maui and can be found predominantly around Haleakala and the upcountry regions. When Captain James Cook arrived in the Hawaiian Islands in 1778, his naturalists noted that the goose was quite common. But hunting, and predators like mongooses, pigs and cats, reduced the Nene population to just 30 birds by 1952. The goose has since been bred back from the brink of extinction and re-introduced into the wild. Today, with 2,500 birds in the wild, it is still the sixth-most endangered waterfowl species in the world.

Visiting Maui at this time
For so many of you Maui is a home away from home or a favorite vacation spot, and for all of us it is a special place that we care about deeply. The tragedy that hit has the island has shaken so many hearts and lives in ways that will take time to heal. The community on Maui is pulling together to help those who need aid in true Aloha spirit.
West Maui is closed to visitors at this time, as they continue to clean up the area. The Governor has asked that people avoid the area until mid October. Central Maui, South Maui, and Upcountry areas of the island are open to tourism. Businesses, beaches, and many tourist attractions are still available for people to enjoy while they are here on the island. We hope you will come stay on Maui and support the businesses here!

Due to its position closer to the equator, Hawaii experiences shorter sunsets than the rest of the USA.
While sunsets typically last 30 minutes on the mainland, here in Hawaii where we are nearer to the equator sunsets last only 20 minutes.

“The condo was beautiful- The decor the design and the location. They had everything we needed to make our trip the best-grills beach side, hose to rinse off and fully stocked kitchen. Almost any utensil or small appliance you could think of just in case. The location was perfect right at the end of Kihei near all the major highways you needed to get wherever on the island. When we go back we will definitely stay again!”

“This is a beautiful condo that is right next to the beach! The condo was as advertised and had all the necessary utensils that made our stay comfortable. They also had books and games to play. The communication with the host was seamless. The hosts reached out in messenger when the communication through Airbnb was not working and was quick to respond. The location is breathtaking! Waking up to the sound of the waves and the coconut trees was refreshing and everything I needed on a vacation! Would 100% recommend this place!”

Fourth Friday Town Party in Kihei
Every month on the fourth Friday Kihei town gathers together at the Azeka shopping center for a party for all ages. This event runs from 6-9 pm. Enjoy free entertainment, a classic car show, food booths, arts, crafts, and local shopping!
As June arrives the sunny days are getting longer and warmer. This is the perfect time of year for a Maui vacation with gorgeous warm days and fewer crowds. At Kihei Kai days are spent splashing in the pool and evenings are spent lounging on the lawn while the sun drops into the sea. While guests aren’t out on adventures they enjoy the beach access and barbecue grills in the yard.

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii!
In the state of Hawaii, May Day is Lei Day. Each year, May 1st marks Hawaii’s nationally-recognized Lei Day — an annual tribute to a culturally iconic symbol. Celebrated by locals dressed in aloha attire, the custom honors the state’s natural production of tropical flowers in the crafting and wearing of the lei.
“Join us every Monday at the Shops of Wailea, from 2:30pm-3:30pm or Wednesdays from 1:30pm-2:30pm to learn how to weave a basic Ti leaf lei using flowers and ferns, which can be worn on the head or around your neck. At this complimentary lei-making workshop, discover how the lei expresses love and was gifted on very special occasions by the Hawaiian Ali’i (royalty). Lei-making is open to both keiki (children) and adults. It is located in the Lower Valley, Lower Level of our Center in front of Malibu Shirts.”

We’re heading into the Spring and Summer months here at Kihei Kai. Though the weather has stayed just about the same, the guests who come and join us bring a whole new atmosphere to Kihei Kai. The end of February and beginning of March brought more wonderful guests and fun gatherings to Kihei Kai’s doorstep. Though we had a few windy days this month it did not stop everyone from enjoying friends and fun. We enjoyed a shrimp boil, pu-pu parties, pineapple pulls, barbeques, potlucks, and lots of beautiful sunsets!
