2025 Kihei Kai Updates
Flood Recovery
On January 31st, Kihei Kai was affected by a Kona storm generating a flash flood that unfortunately washed out some of our front lawn and the foundation of our front 4 units. Kihei Kai has recovered quickly, thanks to the amazing hard-working efforts of our owners and beloved long time guests. Although the front 4 units are no longer able to be rented for the time being (units 1, 2, 9, 10 ) [3 & 11, for now], we are still able to and are accommodating guests in the rest of our units and our property has a new life and ironically looks even better than it has in years! A majority of our front lawn has been washed away, but we have completed building back the sand by the remaining lawn and have planted sod and retaining plants to be grown over the next few months. Thankfully, our patio and eating are still in tact and usable and we have beach access for our guests, as well as a new grill and eating area by our pool. The current – tentative – plan is to rebuild the front stack of units in the next year or two, but we have a while to go until that process is approved by the county & started. Kihei Kai thanks you all that have continued to support us and have continued renting with us, wishing us well and offered support and prayers. The Aloha spirit and love has been so evident during this heart wrenching time and we thank you for making our community such a special Ohana over the decades and for decades to come. We will be offering special rates in the upcoming months and want to let you know you are welcome, needed and appreciated. We will do our best to keep you all updated but as of now we open, deemed safe host and recovering fast!
Our owners and long time guests have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into rebuilding what is salvageable in our front lawn. We have had a team rebuild the lawn near the grills patio and we have planted new grass and retaining plants to take root. This area should be able to accommodate around 8 guests on their lawn chairs not including the patio & grill area, that has not been affected by the flooding. We have also create a pathway to the beach for easy accessibility!

Our New Property Managers!
We have recently said good-bye to our property manager Kaleb and have said a, “Aloha & welcome back” to our NEW, yet previous managers, Jim and Carole Anne Olson. They will be working for Kihei Kai until we on board our permanent resident manager Vidar, expected to start in the fall. The Olson’s have served many years with us in the 90’s and they are bringing new life back to Kihei Kai’s property and atmosphere. If you remember them from previous years, be sure book with us this spring or summer or just stop by and give them hello to catch up with them!

Hawai’i Facts: Maui Needs YOU!
Maui is still recovering from the fire that occurred in Lahaina 2 years ago but is still suffering economically from the global news circulation, instructing tourists to forego their planned vacations to Maui. As a result, many businesses and families are struggling to meet their financial needs as so many of our welcomed tourists have decided to cancel their trips to Maui. According to Maui’s Economic Development Board, about 70 cents of every dollar generated in Maui comes from tourism. As you can imagine, Maui is eager and ready for you to return to our island, as the whole economy is in need. We want to join our local community in voicing that “Maui needs YOU”, as so many families and local communities depend on tourism to support themselves and each other. Our local government is working hard to house those displaced and budget for restoration of our beloved Lahaina. We want to encourage all who read our newsletter and keep in touch with Maui, to take the leap and vacation here on island. The island is open and is as beautiful as ever and your stay with Kihei Kai and many others will be secured and unaltered regardless of current news circulation. Thankfully, a majority of Kihei’s short term rentals and loved condominiums will remain short term rentals including Kihei Kai!
